Land Rover R380 Manual Gearbox Review

This manual is divided into five sections, data, torques, service tools, description and, finally, Overhaul. To help present the information reviewed each sub – section is numbered page 1. The procedures in this manual covers the revision of the R380 gearbox mounted on a range of vehicles and as such, there are some differences between the gears, in particular concerning the extension housing, gear boxes boxes change and transfer case selection. It is therefore important that before starting work, check gearbox is correctly identified. The identification may be watching the serial number prefix gearbox stamped on the right side of the gearbox cover and with reference to the following table lists four types of gearbox, A, B, C and D along with appropriate prefix serial number. remove and discard clips clutch release bearings, bearings and remove the clutch release lever, pills to recover. Remove the 2 screws after the release lever pivot, remove message. Remove 6 screws clutch housing, case, remove the box. Type D gearbox has an adapter for standard clutch cover which mates with the V8 and diesel engine clutch housings. The illustration above shows the gearbox removed the adapter from the clutch housing with the adapter from the clutch housing (which contains the clutch mechanism) is installed on the engine.
