One of the earliest proponents of all-wheel drive (AWD) passenger cars, Subaru drives that point home for 1997 by offering AWD as the only available drive system on all its models. With a rally racing-derived AWD system and one of the industry‘s few horizontally-opposed “boxer” motors (similar to the configuration used in the Porsche 911), the Legacy has been a key contributor to Subaru‘s recent sales success. The Legacy model line, which includes sedans and wagons, has enjoyed a sales increase of over 40% in the past year, and will be further strengthened with the addition of a more powerful 2.5-liter engine in the sporty Legacy 2.5 GT and LSi.
